Mustard Seed Waterfall

This painting by Lu Kesi, based on a black and white illustration from the Ming Dynasty Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting, was originally created as practice. It was later used as an illustration for the book The Beyond Within: the Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden by Daniel Skach-Mills.

When this picture was taken it had not yet been backed (which flattens out the paper), so a vertical wrinkle in the paper is still visible towards the left hand side. The second seal is also missing from this image.

  • Material: Chinese ink and color on Chinese paper
  • Date: 2017
  • Inscription: From a sketch in the Mustard Seed Garden Manual of painting. By Lu Kesi 2017.
  • Seal: Lu (center left below inscription); Lu Kesi (lower left)
