Up in a tree

Up in a Tree

“It’s the strangest thing! I woke up this morning in the top of this tree and I have no idea how I got here.”

Painted by Lu Kesi and based on a black and white sketch by Huang Binhong (1865-1955) who based his version on a painting by Shitao (石濤 1642–1707) of the Qing dynasty.

There are many old Chinese paintings of gentlemen sitting alone or in groups in the tops of pine trees.
