Description

“It’s the strangest thing! I woke up this morning in the top of this tree and I have no idea how I got here.”

A color painting by Lu Kesi based on a black and white sketch by Huang Binhong (1865-1955) who based his version on a painting by Shitao (石濤 1642–1707) of the Qing dynasty… with added commentary not found in any of the originals.

There are many old Chinese paintings of gentlemen sitting alone or in groups in the tops of pine trees.
