A black and white painting by Lu Kesi created as an illustration for the book The Beyond Within: the Downtown Dao of Lan Su Chinese Garden by Daniel Skach-Mills. One of several versions created for the book, though this one was not used. “Listen to the fragrance” is written on the scroll shaped plaque above the moon gate in the scholar’s courtyard of Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland, Oregon.
